Stream on Ouachita Trail 01-A

This past Sunday (Sept. 27) I hiked the first 2.5 miles (and back) of the Ouachita Trail. It starts at Talimena State Park in Oklahoma. From there it goes along a pretty creek valley for .8 miles or so. Then the trail climbs up to almost the top of Winding Stair Mountain.

The ascent is around 800 feet or so to the Potato Hill Vista spur. It’s quite a climb.

To make it easier to refer to the different segments of the Ouachita Trail, I’m labeling each segment of the trail as they are divided by the Friends of the Ouachita Trail. I’m adding a letter to each of their designated segments.

So Sunday I hiked on segment 01-A. (Officially, it is the “0.0 to 2.4″ segment.)

One nice thing is that there were almost no biting horseflies.
