Mount Magazine Seen From North Rim Trail

A couple of weeks ago on January 15, I headed to Mount Magazine hoping to get some good snow photos. I did a walk on the North Rim Trail.Most of the snow had already melted, but I did get some nice photos of snow and of the beautiful scenery. I also made a new gpx file which I used to update the gpx trail map on this post.

Fort Smith National Historic Site – Seen in “True Grit”

The new True Grit movie from the Coen Brothers has been a big hit lately. This November 2010 article by Jennifer Boulden does a nice job of comparing the actual history of Fort Smith, Arkansas, with that depicted in the film’s fictional story of Mattie Ross (played by Hailee Steinfeld) and “Rooster” Cogburn (played by Jeff Bridges). .

Cedar Falls, Petit Jean State Park

Back on December 27th, my kids and I walked the Cedar Falls Trail in Petit Jean State Park (Conway County in central Arkansas). I was hoping to show them how cool Cedar Falls is.

The trail was very pretty, but unfortunately Cedar Falls was just a trickle. There had not been much rainfall lately.

It was still a nice hike though.

Redding Spy Rock Loop Trail
