A few weeks ago I hiked the Yellow Rock Trail again at Devil’s Den State Park. This was my first time to hike it with my GPS.
The trail is a semi-loop. The first half-mile is a spur which will be repeated on the return trip. On the western end of the loop, there is also a spur leading to an overlook shelter (close to Highway 170). If you do the entire semi-loop and the overlook spur (which I recommend), the hike is about 3.1 miles.
Although the overlook shelter on the western part of the trail is very nice, the most scenic area is the Yellow Rock Bluff. This bluff has an expansive view of the Lee Creek valley below.
Caution: The overlook at the Yellow Rock Bluff is beautiful, but there is no guard rail. If you go to the edge of the overlook and fall off, it would probably be fatal. Be very careful.
The first quarter-mile has some of the really cool rock formations that the park is known for.
This is one of my favorite trails to hike.
The trail head is located near Campground A. There is usually parking nearby.

My husband and I took this trail on September 25, 2010. It was our favorite trail at Devil’s Den. The views are spectacular just take care around the Yellow Rock area. We found the trail moderately strenuous. We did not hike on to the overlook area.
